City & Guilds 2079-13

City & Guilds Level 2 Award in F-Gas and ODS Regulations - Category III (2079-13)

F-Gas Category III Courses

Category III

Certificate holders may only carry out refrigerant recovery in relation to RAC systems containing less than 3 kg of fluorinated greenhouse gases (or less than 6 kg for systems that are hermetically sealed)

Unit 2079-301

The Online multi choice assessment is made up of 12 questions and you have 25 minutes to complete it. The result is either a pass or fail, the exact percentage of correct answers required to attain the pass mark is less than 100%, and based on the questions answered correctly within each of the eleven sections covered.

Unit 2079-302

The practical assessment covers a range of activities which must be completed within a period of 2 hours. All practical tests must be successfully completed within the time frame to be awarded a pass.

If the candidate does not pass both units they are deemed not yet competent. Candidates that are not yet competent can re-take either, or both, the theory and practical assessments. The practical assessment must completed again in its entirety, candidates retaking this assessment cannot undertake only those aspects of the practical assessment where they were previously unsuccessful.

Underpinning Knowledge
Candidates are required to;

  • Describe climate change and the Kyoto Protocol
  • Understand direct and indirect Global Warming Potential (GWP) of the common HFC and HC refrigerants
  • Understand importance of energy efficiency on greenhouse gas emissions to the atmosphere
  • Describe the basic requirements of Regulation (EC) No. 517/2014 and other relevant regulations
  • State requirements and procedures for handling, storage, transportation and disposal of contaminated refrigerant and oil
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the potential of HCFC refrigerants to deplete ozone, and the effect of chlorine on ozone depletion. Identify the ODP of various HCFC refrigerants in use
  • Describe the basic requirements of Regulation (EC) 2037/2000 and the impact of the Montreal Protocol
  • Describe the hazards associated with refrigerant release, including
Cold burns
Asphyxiation
Thermal decomposition
CNS effect
Cardiac sensitisation

Practical Skills
Candidates are required to;

  • Connect & disconnect gauges to/from a running system with minimal refrigerant loss (by reducing gauge pressure to a safe minimum) using service valves
  • Connect & disconnect gauges to/from a running system with minimal refrigerant loss (by reducing gauge pressure to a safe minimum) using schraeder valves
  • Recover refrigerant from the system into a recovery cylinder
  • Record the weight of refrigerant recovered
  • Drain oil from a compressor
We offer a number of training / assessment programs to suit differing levels of candidate experience. We also offer the facility to retake either the theory or practical assessments, regardless of which training centre the original assessment was taken.

Bespoke training courses, different from the choices below, can be arranged on request.
